Start-ups compete to become “Mumpreneur Idol”

Start-up business-owners who are juggling running a firm and looking after a family full-time are being called on to enter the first Mumpreneur Idol awards and be in with a chance of winning a range of prizes.

Mums, dads and grandparents who have started a business in the last six months can send their business plan to competition organisers Mumpreneur UK to be considered for the award.

“We’re looking for someone with a start-up business or business idea that has the potential to be long-lasting and to provide a good income and profit,” said Mumpreneur UK co-founder, Laura Rigney.

“It doesn’t necessarily have to be an original idea, it can just be an old idea with a twist,” she added. “The PR is the main benefit – finalists will get a lot of local press coverage and the winner will get national press coverage.”

One overall winner will also receive a prize package including a bespoke website, a Blackberry smartphone, a £1,000 advertising package with Yell, a 12-month package with Skype, and a 12-month package with Quickbooks accountancy software.

Applicants are required to either fill in an online form along with their business plan on the Mumpreneur website, or email their existing business plan as an attachment.

The deadline for entries is Friday 4 March, and the awards will take place on 9 April in London.
