Guidelines for writing a blog

The Donut blogs are popular, lively and challenging and aimed squarely at small businesses. We hope the blog posts will spark ideas and ultimately will help our readers do business better.

We want to generate debate so we're looking for thought-provoking, opinionated blogs - fresh ideas that will get people talking.

Here are a few guidelines for writing a Donut blog:

  1. Keep it short. About 300-400 words is ideal. 500 words maximum.
  2. Write something interesting and original - we like to publish exclusive content.
  3. Don't use the blog just to plug your business - we don't run advertorials.
  4. Make sure it's relevant to the particular Donut you're writing for: Marketing, Start Up, Tech, Law or Money.
  5. We reserve the right to edit blogs, and change titles, so that they fit our house style and conform to these guidelines.
  6. Blogs usually have a credit at the end with a link to your website. Credits are normally one sentence long with one link. If you are a featured Donut expert contributor, we will also put in a link to your profile page.
  7. We don't generally allow external links within the blog.
  8. Above all, make sure your blog is aimed at small businesses and offer our readers real value.

Please give us a brief credit line with a link to your website at the bottom of your blog. We'd also like to know your Twitter handle, if you have one, so we can credit you properly on the site and promote your blog, and you, on social media.

All blogs are subject to editorial approval and can take several weeks to appear on the site should we decide to publish. There is a charge of £249+VAT on acceptance of your blog for publication. We will send you a link when your blog is live.

Terms and conditions: Atom Content Marketing syndicates the Donut websites to third parties, sometimes without the Donut branding, but with the same content, copyright acknowledgement and credit lines. By blogging on our site you agree to your blog being used on all branded and non-branded Donut sites as part of the main content. In addition, blogs may sometimes be featured on the Government-partnered regional business network website, Gain. Blogs will not be reproduced, other than on the sites listed above, without the express permission of the blogger. External links within blogs are set to no-follow as standard.
