Carbon Trust video tool helps firms cut energy costs

The Carbon Trust has launched an online video tool offering advice on how small firms can cut up to a fifth off their energy bills.

To access the Cut Carbon, Cut Costs video tutorial, firms need to register on the Carbon Trust website and fill out a questionnaire detailing their energy use and expenditure.

They can then watch six videos offering tips on energy efficiency. An online calculator will also use the questionnaire data to inform businesses how much money they could save by being more energy efficient.

Firms can then choose which of the energy-saving advice topics to add to their tailored Carbon Trust Action Plan, which will appear at the end of the tutorial with details of the cost savings.

The topics include:

  • Cutting energy use out-of-hours
  • Energy management
  • Heating systems
  • Lighting systems
  • Office and IT equipment

“Many firms tried to cut costs to the bone at the end of last year,” said the Carbon Trust’s director of solutions, Hugh Jones. “But many could save further, significant amounts of cash, without affecting their service or product levels, by tackling energy efficiency.

“We’ve provided this flexible tool to help time-poor businesses understand what they can gain by improving energy efficiency to help them survive and thrive in the downturn,” he added.
