About the expert

Working in the industry is more than just a job to me, it's a lifestyle choice. You can't work in events contracting without living and breathing what you do. From this comes the drive and motivation which makes my job the best in the world. The variety of projects in which we're involved is huge, from designing graphics for a shell scheme interior, to installing a temporary exhibition hall in a car park in Gateshead; all make getting up in the morning very interesting! It never ceases to amaze me how resourceful this industry is. Remember, we're talking about building temporary structures in a few days with almost as many health and safety considerations as if you were building a shopping centre, but we always push the limits of what we can achieve to give our clients true value and ourselves a sense of satisfaction. As chairman of the Events Industry Alliance, and of ESSA, I try to bring a different perspective to our discussions. We have common issues within our industry, whether contractor, exhibitor, venue or organiser and it's as a collective that we can solve these. I hope to bring this insight to The Marketing Donut!
