About the expert

On seeing the ambitious and awe inspiring NEC open in1976, Phil Powell knew immediately that he was destined to work within the exhibition industry. Phil worked his way through the ranks of a dedicated event logistics company to become Managing Director and in 1993 established what is now CEVA Showfreight.  He is currently Chairman of IELA, the global association for event logistics specialists.  Founded in 1985, Phil was central to its inception and has shaped IELA over the last 24 years.  
 
Phil describes his career as a remarkable journey which has taken him around the globe.  He works closely with political, commercial and sporting event organisers - servicing major consumer and trade exhibitions, road shows, product launches as well as international golf, football and motorsports events.  Logistics is intrinsic to all aspects of events from sales and marketing to construction.  Phil has made it his business to hone his skills and knowledge of the industry to ensure he understands and can anticipate customer needs.

His mantra is ... if you set out to do something you should aim to be the best.  He constantly raises standards across his business by reviewing and looking at ways to make improvements at all levels.  He is quick to listen to experts and keen to look for ideas and techniques which can be adopted and embroidered with his company's own personality and culture.  He believes in individualism and values his team highly.
